'Keep Calm and Carry On'

My body is under attack on several fronts. A combination of jet lag, heavy training and severe cold has contributed to my body succumbing to tonsillitis and a chest infection. However, I have adopted the British World War 2 propaganda slogan, ‘Keep Calm and Carry On.’ Its intention was to strengthen morale in the event of a wartime disaster, or in my case, a training camp disaster. I discovered the slogan in an old printing press in Soho, London, on our rest day.

The rest day was perfectly timed and allowed me to recover. It also gave us an opportunity to check out London. After a tour of the sites, I decided to rest while enjoying the West End show, We Will Rock You, with Jess and Myriam Fox. It was fantastic, much like the curry that followed. I thought a nice hot Vindaloo might clear my sinuses. The Vindaloo was the hottest I’ve experienced and had the desired effect.

We have just five more days to squeeze in nine whitewater sessions. So, armed with antibiotics, I’m going to ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ and make the most of the remaining training.
