I will start by having a quick whinge about the weather. I knew that our training camp in London was going to be cold, but this is ridiculous! The wind bites any exposed flesh, and the cold seems to seep deep into your bones. Our physio, Pat, said he now understands why the poms whinge so much. If it’s this cold I don’t blame them either for having a whinge. Mind you they are making me feel soft. I went to buy extra thermals today and the shop assistant asked, “Why do you need thermals? Are you going skiing?” No! I just want to go outside!
All right the whinging is over, for now. The Brits asked me and Kynan to do demonstration runs and forerunners for the last day of their Olympic selection. It was a great opportunity for us to measure ourselves against the Brits on the Olympic course. It was a different experience trying to perform on a course without any prior training, but it has been really valuable because it has provided feedback on what we need to improve during the training camp. Next step, get out there and find out as much as possible about the course and unlock the key to success here.
